The President addressed the shooting of five people in Virginia and highlighted the bravery of the Capitol Police as he spoke to the nation in this weekend’s media address.
“This week, our nation was shocked and horrified when a gunman opened fire on a Member of Congress,” Trump said. “Five people were wounded in the assault, including a member of House Leadership – my good friend, Steve Scalise.”
Steve is beloved across Washington, he embodies everything public service is about – he’s dedicated to his constituents, devoted to his values, and deeply committed to his country. I visited Steve, his wife, and his family in the hospital as he continues to fight for his recovery. 435 Members of Congress and 300 million Americans are pulling for him, praying for him, and pledging to him our full and total support.”
“We continue to hold all of those wounded and fighting for recovery in our hearts and prayers, including Matt Mika, who was also badly wounded.”
In that terrible crime, we also witnessed the incredible heroism of Capitol Police. Special Agent Crystal Griner – who I also had the honor of meeting during my visit to the Hospital – raced into gunfire, along with Special Agent David Bailey. They saved the lives of our Members of Congress and prevented that dark day from becoming a tragedy beyond imagination. They, like so many other courageous police officers, represent the very best of us. We salute them, and we also salute members of Alexandria Police, Fire and Rescue.”

Attorney General Jeff Sessions is scheduled to testify today before the Senate Intelligence Committee about the Trump campaign’s alleged ties to Russia.
Members of the Intelligence Committee said they wanted Sessions to recount what happened during and after the February 14 Oval Office meeting where – according to former FBI Director James Comey – Trump pressured him to drop the FBI investigation into Michael T. Flynn, the former national security adviser. Sessions was among those Trump asked to leave the meeting so he could speak privately with Comey.
Senators say Sessions will face pointed questions not only about his contacts with Russian officials but also about his conversations with Comey.

In a letter Saturday to Sen. Richard Shelby, Sessions wrote that his decision to appear comes in light of Comey's testimony.

President Trump says he is "100%" willing to testify under oath to dispute the ex-FBI director's claims that Trump urged him to drop an investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn.
There was "no collusion, no obstruction" of justice, Trump said Friday during a joint news conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, adding that Comey is "a leaker" to boot. The "collusion" reference is apparently to the White House's long-running contention that there is no evidence Trump's campaign colluded with Russian attempts to undermine the election.
Asked if he would repeat his claims about Comey under oath, Trump said: "100%."

President Donald Trump says that U.S. infrastructure will "once again be the envy of the world."
Trump visited the Department of Transportation's headquarters Friday to highlight his goal of curbing regulations on infrastructure projects.
Trump sat at a round table discussion with White House and state transportation officials that his administration is working to streamline the permitting process.
He says that, right now, the country's infrastructure is being "laughed" and "scoffed" at and complains that highways take too long to build.
Trump has been promoting vague plans to bolster the country's roads, bridges and waterways in what his aides have dubbed "infrastructure week."

President Donald Trump outlined his vision on Wednesday for an infrastructure plan that includes federal grants to rural areas as well as to states and localities to create additional funding for projects.
Trump outlined his plan during a speech in Cincinnati as part of what the White House has billed as a week-long effort to formally launch the initiative to deliver the one- trillion-dollar infrastructure investment he has promised to upgrade crumbling roads, bridges, airports and other assets.
“The president aims to give states and localities the ability to address their own critical infrastructure needs and to collaborate with private enterprises where it makes sense,’ the White House says.

President Trump on Monday unveiled his proposal to hand over control of the U.S. air-traffic control system to a non-profit corporation as he kicked off a week-long push for his infrastructure plan.
The proposal, designed to lower costs and improve the efficiency of the system that oversees flights, would transfer about 15,000 controllers and thousands of other managers and technical workers to a new government-sanctioned corporation.
In an attempt to gain support for a plan that fell short in Congress last year, the White House said the 13-member board of directors for the new corporation should be made up of appointees from industry stakeholder groups. Critics had charged the proposal last year gave too much power to airlines.
The proposal is also designed to shrink government and reduce taxes, according to D.J. Gribbin, a special assistant to the president who gave a briefing on the plan Monday morning.
